Fun Fact:
Labrador Retrievers have been one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States for decades.

History:
The Labrador Retriever originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were bred as working dogs to help fishermen retrieve nets and catch fish that escaped from lines. Known as St Johns dogs, they were later brought to England in the early 19th century, where they were refined into the modern Labrador Retriever. British breeders focused on enhancing their retrieving instincts, temperament, and trainability. Labradors quickly became popular as hunting companions due to their soft mouths and strong swimming ability. Over time, their friendly personality and adaptability made them one of the most popular family dogs worldwide, as well as a top choice for service and therapy work.
